Growing up as part of the diaspora and the child of two war refugees, maveerar naal was a very big part of understanding my identity and roots. Since the first remembrance day I remember, I have associated this image to the day and to our struggle. This image evokes an indescribable sense of insignificance within me in comparison to the immensely selfless sacrifices made by our maveerar, in the name of our flag, our country and our identity as eela tamils.
